INVENTORY ACCOUNTING ANALYST

(Yield Accounting Clerk)

The Inventory Accounting Analyst position is a critical role in Kern Oil & Refining Co.'s accounting department. The primary functions are to maintain inventory and refinery production records, provide data updating, and problem resolution for Yield Accounting in such areas as the inventory management system, refinery data historian system, and the yield accounting (inventory/yield/movements) system. Other duties also include but not limited to daily, weekly and monthly reporting for production accounting activities, inventory count correcting entries, inventory discrepancy analysis, information requests for historical data, and job coverage assistance for other accounting clerical positions.

Primary Duties

  • Maintain yield accounting computer program with edits and enhancements to keep up with the changes that occur within the Refinery Operations and supply/distribution system.
  • Maintain interfaces that send data from the companywide enterprise management system to the refinery historian data collection system and yield accounting system and vice versa.
  • Daily, weekly and month end reporting for certain manually entered product movement accounting entries and count journals for various petroleum storage locations and product reclassifications.
  • Daily inventory accounting analysis for petroleum products.
  • Create and maintain reports to extract information from database to meet numerous data analysis requests, to improve Yield Accounting work procedures.
  • Fill in to assist with job coverage for Accounting Clerks during vacations or absences.
  • Report volume and process discrepancies.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or Two Year College equivalent preferred. Very strong math skills required.
  • Accounting clerical experience requiring analytical thinking. Prior oil industry experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Very strong math skills required. Need to be a numbers person.
  • Detail-oriented person.
  • Ability to understand Refining operations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and computer skills including ability to understand various computer programs. Ability to learn quickly and produce results, sometimes under pressure due to impending deadlines.
  • Ability to function independently as well as lead in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical abilities, initiative and problem solving skills necessary to adapt to changes in operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office platform.
  • Ability to interact with all levels within organization.
  • Ability to speak effectively, both individually and before groups of both internal and external personnel.
